To Cork Or Not To Cork

As you have probably noticed, the 2007 Bottle Blonde is one of the first Pillitteri wines that is being offered in a Screw Cap Closure.  Along with our Bottle Blonde we also packaged the 2007 Sauvignon Blanc with a Screw Cap and there are more wines to come in future vintages.

The debate to finish wines with cork or a screw cap has been raging for many years now and there is no end in sight.  However while the public opinion may offer a number of different views, the experts have definitely seen the benefits of screw cap closures, particularly for young crisp whites.

Here at Pillitteri we are committed to doing whatever we can to provide the best benefit for the wine, and with that we have decided to begin phasing in the screw cap closure for appropriate wines.  Screw caps will offer a number of benefits to the consumers including: The preservation of aromatic freshness, perfected seal ability and porosity of the closure, uniform taste from bottle to bottle, easy opening and closing, easy storage upright or in a rack, and best of all NO CORK TAINT!

For our red wines where we desire a more mellow and aged character we will be continuing to finish with cork as they are naturally porous and provide more breathability, necessary for longer aging.
