Although 2019 was a rainy and cool year reduced crop yields for whites enabled some very good quality fruit. Grapes like Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Viognoir, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer fared well. Rains lessened later in the season. Due to the hard skins of the Bordeaux varieties they held up well but were well cropped and hung long into the fall. It was a season where all varieties stayed on the vine longer than usual to balance PH, Acidity, and Brix. In the fall there was an unusual early frost that hit the later maturing grapes increasing sugar levels. Good or fair would be an accurate assessment with some interesting characters for the fruit.
A fresh aroma immediately fills the glass with characters of fruit salad. Tropical fruits, strawberries and candied apple are most prominent while subtle hints of peach and plum follow. The palate bursts with tropical fruit. Banana, Starfruit, citrus, peach, plum and strawberry follow the first sip. This rosé is soft and refined, yet you can clearly feel the body of the Select Late Harvest Cabernet, holding the structure together in balance of acidity and sweetness. This rosé sips like a tropical sunset in the Caribbean.
