Pillitteri Estates Winery is a family owned winery based in Niagara-on-the-Lake Ontario. Operating since 1993 it has grown to produce over 100,000 cases of wine and receives over 200,000 guests from all around the world each year. We are currently seeking self-motivated, entrepreneurial, positive and enthusiastic, customer service oriented people to join our winery retail sales team.

Daily Tasks:
Assist customers from around the world find the right VQA Ontario wine
Provide unparalleled customer service to winery guests through tours and tastings
Promote winery brands and the sales of wine and winery merchandise
Execute exceptional on and off-site hospitality wine events and wine tastings
Conduct daily winery operations, opening, closing, inventory counting, etc…
Process cash transactions
General cleaning and retail store upkeep
Other general winery retail related tasks as assigned by management

Job Requirements:
Exceptional customer oriented attitude and a desire to ensure a superior customer experience
Enthusiasm to learn about wine, food and winemaking
Outgoing attitude and comfort speaking in front of large groups
Ability to multitask and fulfill a number of tasks simultaneously while working with customers
Ability to lift 40lbs and stand for long periods of time
Legally wine servers must be 18 years of age
Flexible work schedule including weekends, weekdays, holidays and some evenings
Preference will be given to those with Smart Serve Certification

There are a number of positions available and we are seeking applicants with interest in a retail and wine production environment. Wine and retail sales training will be provided. Successful applicants will relish the opportunity to work in a fast paced retail space with global visitors and will have a desire to grow their own personal sales skill set while gaining valuable experience in the Ontario wine business.

The position is paid hourly wage plus monthly bonuses and profit sharing.

Vintage Cellar Hand – Icewine Harvest (2 positions available)

This is a temporary full time position and the successful candidate will be involved in every aspect of production from berry to bottle.
Requirements of the ideal candidate:
• High school diploma
• Previous vintage experience an asset
• Must be able to work to the completion of the vintage (estimated 3-6 months)
• Valid sin number or work permit
• Must be able to work shift work including weekends and evenings
Duties include:
• Fruit processing
• Weighing, sorting, operating and cleaning the de-stemmer and presses
• Cleaning equipment and tanks
• Racking wine juice and inoculations
• Pump overs and punch downs
• Juice and wine additions
• Barrel work
Skills:

Assistant Winemaker

• The Assistant Winemaker will report to the Winemaker on all aspects of wine production, with a focus on hands-on, task-driven work.
• Schedule and monitor daily cellar operations, including harvest, bulk wine, barrels, bottling preparation, sanitation, and cellar organization and cleanliness.
• Help with Lab analysis when needed
• Keep accurate records of all tasks and bulk wine inventory on cellar tracking software
• Maintain inventory of dry goods and cellar additives as well as reordering and coordinating with suppliers
• Assist winemaker in preparation of blends, fining trials, and VQA submissions
• Participate in wine tasting at all stages throughout the winemaking process.
• Assist in operation, maintenance and supervision of the bottling line, including any personnel assigned to those operations
• Supervise and train cellar staff in job duties and H&S.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the winemaking process and procedures.

Desired Skills & Experience

Requirements include:

– University Degree or College Diploma in Oenology or related field

– Strong organizational, problem solving skills, attention to detail

– Lift and carry up to 55 pounds; work on and around ladders, catwalks, uneven flooring, in hot, cold and wet environments; with typical winery chemical exposure and conditions.
– Ability to work long hours and weekends during harvest
– Must possess excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills, fluent in English, both verbal and written
– 5 years of experience in a premium winemaking/production capacity

Hours: 40 – 55/week
Wage: $20.00-$23.00/hour
