FLURRY OF ICEWINE HARVESTING BEGINS

St Catharines Standard – The squeeze was on to get Niagara’s famous icy berries off the vine. By mid-morning Monday, temperatures across the peninsula had finally sunk to below –8°C for at least a few hours. That’s the outdoor threshold needed before the frozen berries can be harvested, pressed and fermented into the sweet icewine delicacy.

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE — It wasn’t just those ardent fans of a white Christmas that were cursing the warm weather seen in late December, icewine makers found it a little worrisome as well. Those fears were pushed aside this week, however, when temperatures dipped below -10 degrees Celsius long enough for icewine harvest season to get underway.
